Mustang Soccer Wins in Overtime

The MCA Boys Soccer Team Defeats the Top Ranked Team in District

Senior Kolton Kuykendall punts the ball to his teammate. Kuykendall had several saves in the game, leading the Knights to a shutout.
On Monday, February 2, the McKinney Christian Academy boys' soccer team faced off against the top-ranked team in their district, the Dallas Covenant Knights. This was the Mustangs' second matchup against the Knights, and they were looking to come away with a win. The game kicked off and immediately became heated, going back and forth with many shots from both teams. However, neither team finished, and the score remained tied 0–0 at halftime. After the break, the game continued with the same intensity. The matchup was physical, with many fouls on both sides, and, once again, neither team could find the back of the net. Regulation ended in a tie, 0–0, sending the game into a 20-minute overtime, with each team playing 10 minutes on both sides of the field. During the first 10 minutes, the Mustangs shut down every attempt from the Knights, while their own chances were also stopped. After a short break, the Mustangs switched sides and went back to work, stopping the Knights over and over again. With just two minutes left in overtime, a foul just outside the box gave senior Grady Rodgers a chance to end the game. He delivered a beautiful shot into the top corner, giving the Mustangs the overtime win in a decisive matchup for first place in the district. Junior, Luke Dreffs, said this about the game, "Even though I wasn't able to play and I knew my team needed me, I still cheered from the sideline as if I was playing."

The Mustangs play next on Thursday, February 5, on the road against Lakehill.
