The McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs continued their playoff dominance with an 85-46 victory over Pantego Christian Academy in the Area round of the TAPPS 4A playoffs. Playing in front of a packed home crowd, the Mustangs delivered a statement performance, remaining undefeated at home and securing the Area Championship.
The Mustangs set the tone from the opening tip with their signature intense defense. Their game plan was clear—apply aggressive defensive pressure and attack the paint. They executed, scoring 14 of their 18 first-quarter points inside while stifling Pantego's offense, holding them to just five points. The second quarter was the same as the Mustangs found their rhythm on offense. Their ball movement was on full display, leading to easy baskets in transition and high-quality shots in their half-court set. While their initial focus was on attacking inside, they soon caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers in the second quarter. Their relentless defense continued to shine, allowing just 18 points in the first half while putting up an astounding 51 points before the break. By halftime, the Mustangs had four players already in double figures. Senior forward Caleb Atherton had 10 points and a block, senior guard Drew Hamilton poured in 13 of his 17 points, senior guard John Clark tallied 12 of his 19 points and junior guard Manny Weaver led the charge with 12 of his game-high 22 points. The Mustangs entered the locker room with a commanding lead and complete control of the game. Pantego Christian tried to battle back in the third quarter, scoring 19 points, but the Mustangs refused to let up. Each time Pantego built a small run, McKinney Christian had an answer, maintaining their rhythm on both ends of the floor. Their disciplined approach ensured that the lead never wavered. The Mustangs closed the game just as they started—with tough defense and unselfish ball movement. Every possession was executed with poise, leading to high-percentage shots. They never trailed, putting together one of their most complete performances of the season. The final score of 85-46 was a testament to their dominance as they celebrated their Area Championship victory in front of their home crowd.
With the win, the Mustangs now advance to the Regional Finals, where they will face Prince of Peace on Saturday. The game will be played at a neutral site, with the time and location to be determined.
