Coach Whitsett is entering his fourth season in Texas leading the Mustangs Football Program.
Coach Whitsett has been a Head Football Coach for the last 26 seasons. He has also been a Head
Baseball Coach (11 seasons) and a Head Softball Coach (13 seasons). He also served as an Athletic
Director and Dean for 18 years.
Coach Whitsett previously led the Tri-Cities Prep Jaguars (Pasco, Washington) for 19 seasons as their
Head Coach from 2002 through 2021. There he accumulated a 146-68 record, with a State
Championship, a State Runner-up, three State Semi-Final appearances, and reached the State
Quarterfinals 14 times. His teams played into the postseason 17 out of the 19 seasons. During this span,
Coach Whitsett was named the Washington State Coach of the Year three times, Regional Coach of the
Year five times, and District Coach of the Year 9 times. He was also named District and State Athletic
Director of the Year in 2018. He was a member of the WIAA Rep Assembly and the District 5 President.
In 2005 and 2006, Coach Whitsett added being the first Head Coach of the Tri-Cities Fever Arena
Football Team to his coaching resume. He would coach the Fever in the Spring and his high school team
in the summer and fall. He led the Fever to a 14-5 record in 2005 and the Indoor Bowl National
Championship. In two seasons at the professional level, he was 26-9 overall with two straight playoff
appearances, a Western Division title, and an Indoor Bowl Championship. He was named the National
Indoor Football League Coach of the Year in 2005. He eventually became the first Head Football Coach
in Washington State history to win a championship at the professional level and high school level both.
During his time in Arena Football, he coached future and former NFL and CFL players, as well as
additional players that have went on to become high school and college football coaches.
Coach Whitsett has had several players go on to play in the college ranks. Most recently, seven of the
2023 Mustang seniors were offered the opportunity to play at the next level. Four are currently playing
college ball, with Drew Denton (Oklahoma Baptist), Cash Etheredge (Southern Nazarene), Noah Wheeler
(Grove City College), and Max Luna (Texas Wesleyan). Kobe Singleton and Dante Maiuri who played for
Coach Whitsett in Washington are still currently playing college ball. Singleton plays for Oregon State
after starting at corner-back for Liberty University the past two seasons, while Maiuri is a quarterback at
Montana State Northern.
Coach Whitsett’s wife Allison is a PRCA Rodeo Secretary who travels the United States handling the
logistics of rodeo events. Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, Del Rio, Waxahachie, and Fort Bend are some of
the Texas rodeos that you can find her at. Coach and his wife have three adult children, and reside in
Leonard, Texas. They attend King’s Trail Cowboy Church in Whitewright, where they are members of the
Arena Team.
